Friends of the Earth Malta is a local NGO that has been active in the environmental scene since 1985, and also happens to be part of one of the World’s largest grassroots environmental networks.
Originally founded under the name of Żgħażagħ Għall-Ambjent (Youths for the Environment), the organisation later became known as Moviment Għall-Ambjent (Movement for the Environment) in Malta. After years of raising awareness on local issues such as development on some of Malta’s untouched beaches and countryside, the organisation joined the Friends of the Earth international network in 1991.
As part of their work in activism, community outreach and engagement, and influencing of the policy community, the organisation wanted to update their existing website to fit a more digital approach.
The original brief consisted of creating a more user-friendly and welcoming website, that still respected the NGO’s roots and international recognition.
In fact, Friends of the Earth Malta supplied us with a list of new functionalities that they wanted their new site to have. These included a refreshed donation page, an easier mechanism for signing up to their newsletter, and also a simple shop for the selling of merchandise.
Our developers at NIU constructed the website from scratch, tailoring the client’s desired features into a winning finished product that is both responsive to multiple devices, as well as fitting to the client’s reputation.
Working with Friends of the Earth Malta was a great experience for our team at NIU, especially since we enjoy contributing to the great work that is undertaken by local environment NGOs. It is always a pleasure to work with clients that have a clear picture of the final product in mind, while still being open to suggestions and new ideas.
Friends of the Earth Malta are “very happy with the outcome, and the feedback they received on the new website has been 100% positive”. In addition, they also expressed that “NIU has provided us with a very professional service, timely in their delivery, and were flexible in terms of our needs and requirements”.
